Kent Police cited a man for investigation of fourth-degree assault and harassment after he reportedly punched his mother and chased her through town in his vehicle.

The incident began at about 4:25 p.m. on Aug. 22 when the woman dropped off a male roommate of her son at her son’s work in the 1600 block of South Central Avenue, according to the police report.

The son reportedly became upset at his mother for dropping off the roommate and yelled at her for letting the roommate spend money on alcohol rather than for paying rent. The son threatened his mother and punched her in the hand to knock away her cellphone when she said she would call 911.

The mother then sped out of the parking lot to get away from her son. He tried to hold on to the car door and threw a tub of chalking paste at the vehicle as it left the lot.

The mother, who had a couple of young grandchildren in the car with her, drove southbound on the East Valley Highway. She noticed her son following her in his vehicle. They drove at a high rate of speed before the mother stopped for a red light at South 277th Street. The son then stopped his car in front of his mother’s vehicle, got out and started to walk toward her.

That caused the mother to drive around him and through the red light. She said she pulled over and hid the vehicle to lose her son in Auburn before returning to the Chevron station at South 277th Street and the East Valley Highway to call 911.

Auburn Police escorted the mother to the Auburn home she shared with her son to get her personal belongings. The son wasn’t at home. Police cited the son but were unable to locate him.
