A Kent man, who called 911 to report his stepdaughter had slapped him during a dispute, ended up going to jail for investigation of fourth-degree assault when he tried to push the woman out of his house.

Officers responded to the domestic dispute at about 5:04 p.m. Nov. 15 in the 24400 block of 35th Place South, according to the police report.

The man reportedly had taken his wife’s cellphone during an earlier dispute. The stepdaughter, who gave the phone to her mother as a gift and paid the bills, showed up at the house to get the phone back.

The stepfather wouldn’t give the stepdaughter the phone and told her to leave the house. When the stepdaughter refused to leave without the phone, the man reportedly grabbed her by the collar and scratched her chest as he tried to push her out the door. The stepdaughter said she slapped him in the face in self defense.

An aunt of the stepdaughter broke up the fight.

The stepfather told police his stepdaughter yelled at him about the phone and refused to leave when he asked her to go. He said he pushed her in the back toward the door and she slapped him. He denied he scratched her.

Officers noted that the stepdaughter had a scratch on her chest, so they determined to arrest the stepfather. Police were unable to find the phone and the stepfather said he didn’t have it.

He also admitted to taking clothing earlier in the week from Kmart.

Disturbing the peace

An officer cited a man for investigation of disturbing the peace because of loud music coming from the El Pescador restaurant, 24817 Pacific Highway S., at about 7:49 p.m. Nov. 17.

A caller to 911 reported the loud music, according to the police report. The caller also had reported a previous loud music compliant about the restaurant.

When the officer arrived, he stood in the parking lot and heard loud music and could hear the words being sung. He went inside and brought out an employee to listen to the loud music. The employee told police the owners were planning to bring in a contractor for a price estimate to install sound proofing materials inside the restaurant.

Drug paraphernalia

Police arrested a man on warrants and for investigation of possession of drug paraphernalia after they spotted him sitting in the Town Square Plaza park, 200 Second Ave. N., in downtown.

A bicycle patrol officer saw several people sitting in the plaza where there has been numerous complaints about vandalizing the public restrooms and people harassing city employees, according to the police report.

The officer talked to one of the men and discovered he had warrants out of Black Diamond and Auburn.
