The Kent School District was asked by the state’s appointed mediator to reassemble at the mediation site 8 a.m. KEA was to put a package on the table that “meets member goals but within the cost framework of the district’s proposals” according to a KEA statement.<\/p>\n

In addition, both the school district and union will report to the Norm Maleng Regional Justice Center at 1 p.m. for a compliance hearing, regarding Judge Andrea Darvas’ ruling last Thursday that the teachers’ strike was illegal. Union members have continued to strike.<\/p>\n

KEA officials have scheduled two speakers to make presentations at noon outside the Regional Justice Center<\/p>\n

James Bible of the NAACP, and Roberto Maesta, executive director of El Centro de la Raza, will express their concerns over the district\u2019s “failure to address the achievement gap and how that is exacerbated by classroom overcrowding,” according to union officials.<\/p>\n

Pickets will be at buildings again during morning school hours. Bargaining resumes at 8 a.m. today.<\/p>\n

KEA also claims that parents in the district conducted a meeting Wednesday night and plan to launch recall petitions against the five current school board members.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
