The Portland Winterhawks defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 7-1 Saturday night at the Rose Garden in Portland.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Portland (19-9-1-1) took a 1-0 lead at 2:52 of the first on a goal from Ty Rattie. William Wrenn and Sven Bartschi had the assists. Portland fans littered the ice with teddy bears after Rattie’s goal as it was the Winterhawks Teddy Bear Toss Game.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Tyler Wotherspoon extended Portland’s lead to 2-0 at 4:42 of the first with his fourth goal of the year. Bartschi and Rattie were credited with the assists.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The Winterhawks went in front 3-0 at 11:32 of the first on a goal from Taylor Leier. Joey Baker and Taylor Peters had the assists.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Leier scored a power-play goal at 17:57 of the first to give Portland a 4-0 lead after one period. Joe Morrow and Brendan Leipsic were credited with the assists.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Portland outshot Seattle 29-7 in the first period.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Joe Morrow scored a five-on-three power play goal at 10:49 of the second period to give Portland a 5-0 lead. Derrick Pouliot and Rattie had the assists.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Ross scored a power-play goal at 16:43 of the second to get Portland’s sixth goal. Rattie and Bartschi had the assists.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Portland led 45-17 in total shots after two periods.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Daniel Cotton replaced Calvin Pickard in goal for Seattle to start the third period. Pickard made 39 saves on 45 shots and was credited with the loss to make his record 11-11-0-1.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Seattle (11-14-0-1) got on the board at 4:35 of the third period on Burke Gallimore’s 14th goal of the year. Gallimore got the puck in the Portland zone along the right boards. Gallimore skated the puck through the slot and as he entered the left circle made a spin move and put a wrist shot on goal. Gallimore’s shot beat Portland goalie Mac Carruth low on the stick side. Shea Theodore had an assist on the goal.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Baker scored a power-play goal at 18:19 of the third for Portland’s seventh goal. Pouliot and Troy Rutkowski had the assists.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Portland outshot Seattle 60-27 in the game.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Cotton stopped 14 of 15 shots in the third period.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Carruth made 26 saves on 27 shots and improved his record to 18-8-1-0.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The T-Birds next game is Friday, December 9, against the Prince George Cougars at ShoWare Center at 7:35pm.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
