The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat watch for Kent and the rest of the Puget Sound area starting Thursday afternoon through Saturday evening.

High temperatures are expected to be in the upper 80s to mid 90s. Low temperatures are predicted in the lower to mid 60s.

An excessive heat watch means that a prolonged period of hot temperatures is expected, according to the weather service. The hot temperatures will create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Impacts are to sensitive groups like the elderly and those working or exercising outdoors who may experience adverse health effects such as dehydration or heat-related illness.

The high heat is expected in Everett, Hood Canal, Seattle, Bellevue, Tacoma, the lower Chehalis Valley and the east Puget Sound lowlands.
