Reporter staff<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n The Kent Black Action Commission presents Our Place in the March on Saturday, Aug. 27, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Burlington Green Park, West Meeker and Railroad Avenue North.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n The event celebrates the 53rd anniversary of the March on Washington, D.C., when Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his historic “I have a dream” speech.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n The program will include a replay of King’s speech, voter’s registration, speakers and music. The program is an opportunity for leaders and residents to come together and discuss and improve relations within the community.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Donations of clothing, school supplies and other basic needs will be collected at the tribute to support the flood victims of Baton Rouge, La.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n The public also can drop off donations at C&G Hair and Beauty Supply, 24228 104th Ave. SE, Kent.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n KBAC, which began as a small grassroots group with a clear mission, has become something bigger in the local community. KBAC \u2013 established on the foundation of kindling opportunities and advancing conditions of the African-American community \u2013 took a significant step in 2013 when Gov. Jay Inslee recognized the nonprofit organization for its efforts.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Such an honor \u2013 in the official form of a governor’s proclamation \u2013 was announced in concert with the KBAC’s Our Place in the March celebration three years ago, commemorating the 50th anniversary of King’s speech.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
