Fire crews put out a fire early Wednesday at a strip mall on Kent’s East Hill in the 10600 block of Southeast 240th Street.

At about 1 a.m., Ladder 74 of the Kent Fire Department Regional Fire Authority, responded to a sprinkler water flow alarm at a strip mall, according to a fire department media release.

The crew quickly realized that a fire had activated the alarm and upgraded the response to a commercial fire. Multiple Kent units, Auburn Regional Fire Authority, King County Medic One, and the Zone 3 Rehab unit responded with the upgrade.

Although the fire was held to the suite where it originated, there was some water damage to the adjoining suites. The quick fire department response along with the fire sprinkler activation helped contain the fire. The damage could have been much greater since the strip mall shares a common attic space.

The fire investigator determined the cause of the fire to be a failure of electrical components. The estimated damage loss is $50,000. There were no injuries.
