Crews from Kent Regional Fire Authority and Renton Fire Department responded to a commercial fire just before 7 a.m. Monday in the 8100 block of South 216th Street in Kent.

The structure is home to a large manufacturing business that operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

When firefighters arrived, they were informed from the business that all the employees had been evacuated and several employees fought the fire with multiple fire extinguishers, according to a Kent RFA media release.

Fire crews sprayed down the affected area with water and after a thorough search, firefighters confirmed the fire had been extinguished.

The Kent RFA fire investigator determined the fire started in the ventilation/filtration system of some manufacturing equipment and ruled the fire to be accidental. The damage estimate is $10,000. The employees were able to return to the building and business was allowed to resume.

The large manufacturing business conducts two fire drills per year and received training within the last couple of years from the Kent RFA about how to properly use fire extinguishers. Fire officials said the quick action by employees helped suppress the fire.
