{"id":8366,"date":"2012-08-30T15:04:58","date_gmt":"2012-08-30T22:04:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spiken.wpengine.com\/news\/kent-city-officials-want-ideas-about-downtown-development\/"},"modified":"2016-10-22T10:05:30","modified_gmt":"2016-10-22T17:05:30","slug":"kent-city-officials-want-ideas-about-downtown-development","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kentreporter.com\/news\/kent-city-officials-want-ideas-about-downtown-development\/","title":{"rendered":"Kent city officials want ideas about downtown development"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><p>The city of Kent wants residents to take an online survey about future downtown development, including whether they would consider living downtown.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>City officials sent out a media release Thursday that it wants community input for the development of what&#8217;s called the Downtown Subarea Action Plan (DSAP).<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Residents can take the survey at <a title=\"downtown\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ci.kent.wa.us\/content.aspx?id=21347\" target=\"_self\">VentureDowntownKent.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>With so many changes in the past seven years, city planner Gloria Gould-Wessen said new ideas are needed.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\u201cWhat was once an adhesives manufacturing plant, Kent Station is now a one-stop location for shopping and dining,&#8221; Gould-Wessen said. &#8220;ShoWare Center has brought sports and entertainment to our community, and we have a historic core in downtown that adds interest and charm.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\u201cAnd coming next year, City Center, a mixed-use apartment building with retail on the lower level will finally bring downtown living to Kent. These were just a few of the many actions recommended in the 2005 DSAP, and with all the progress we\u2019ve seen, it needs to be refreshed.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p><a title=\"goodman\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kentreporter.com\/news\/136763033.html\" target=\"_self\">Seattle developer Goodman Real Estate Inc., plans to start construction<\/a> next year on a five-story, mixed-use development to include approximately 164 apartments and 3,700-square feet of retail space, at the corner of West Smith Street and Fourth Avenue.
