Recess Monkey, which bills itself as Seattle’s greatest children’s music band, plays noon Wednesday as part of the city-sponsored free Picnic Performances at Town Square Plaza, Second Avenue and Harrison Street.<\/p>\n

Parents and children can enjoy the trio that blends various musical influences with clever and comical lyrics. The band’s songs include hints of pop, folk, surf rock and “swamp-tinged country.”<\/p>\n

The songs include lyrics about squirrel rivalries as well as a tiny monkey with aspirations of being an astronaut.<\/p>\n
