The Chicago Slaughter crushed the visiting Kent Predators 71-29 in a professional Indoor Football League game Saturday at the Sears Centre Arena.

Kent (3-4) had won three consecutive games after opening the season with three straight losses.

Chicago (3-3) led 40-17 at halftime. The 71 points scored by the Slaughter came up just one point shy of the single-season high this season in the IFL.

The Predators led 11-10 before the Slaughter turned the game into a rout.

Chicago sacked Kent quarterback Charles McCullum for a safety. Running back Jarrett Payton, the son of former NFL great Walter Payton, scored on a 4-yard run. The Slaughter then recovered an onside kick and scored on a 44-yard pass.

On Kent’s next possession, defensive back Chris Rodgers intercepted a McCullum pass and ran in for a touchdown.

The Predators return to action with a home game against the Billings Outlaws at 7:30 p.m. April 30 at the ShoWare Center.

Billings (6-1) leads the Pacific North Division and averages 57.7 points per game, including a high of 71. The Outlaws beat Kent 56-40 on Feb. 28 in Billings.
