A Kent-based corporation this week issued a recall of peanut products that were potentially contaminated during the current scare involving peanuts.<\/p>\n
The products were sold primarily in the bulk sections of retail stores including Food Pavilion, Cost Cutter and Save on Foods.<\/p>\n
Crown Pacific Fine Foods of Kent is recalling because of possible health risk 10 cases of Roasted Honey Peanuts, 20 cases Virginia Roasted\/Salted Peanuts, 20 cases Virginia Roasted No Salt Peanuts, 20 cases Roasted\/Salted Peanuts, 13 cases Roasted\/Unsalted Peanuts distributed between June 1, 2008 and Jan. 29, 2009.<\/p>\n
The recalled products have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.<\/p>\n
Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.<\/p>\n
Roasted Honey Peanuts, Virginia Roasted\/Salted Peanuts, Virginia Roasted No Salt Peanuts, Roasted\/Salted Peanuts and Roasted\/Unsalted Peanuts were distributed to retail stores throughout Washington State, including Food Pavilions, Cost Cutters and Save on Foods under the brand name of Peanut Corporation of America.<\/p>\n
These products would have been sold in the bulk section of the retail store. The products were sold to retail stores between June 1, 2008 and Jan. 29, 2009, in 20-30 pound bulk boxes.<\/p>\n
Lot codes are unavailable except for Roasted Unsalted=lot#8129 B16JR Item#100 B16JR, Roasted Salted=lot#8151 B19JR Item#100 B19JR, no expiration date or other codes listed.<\/p>\n
No known illnesses have been reported to date in connection with these products. The recall was initiated after it was determined that the peanut product received was manufactured by Peanut Corporation of America. Crown Pacific Fine Foods has informed FDA of its actions and is fully cooperating with the agency.<\/p>\n
