Vets to talk about Korean War<\/p>\n
Korean War veterans Bob Newman and Don Chadwick will speak as part of \u201cThe Forgotten War\u201d presentation from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Kent Senior Activity Center, 600 E. Smith St.<\/p>\n
Newman and Chadwick will talk about the battle in the Chosin Reservoir, known as the Korean War\u2019s worst and most savage battle. Korean War veterans as well veterans from other wars also are invited to share their experiences at the presentation. Medals, ribbons and photos from the Korean War will be displayed.<\/p>\n
Library slates kids\u2019 rock music<\/p>\n
Kent Regional Library will play host to a music event with all-teacher rock band Recess Monkeys at 3 p.m. May Saturday. Children of all ages are invited to join in the free event, titled \u201cRhyme Time!\u201d The library is located at 212 Second Ave. N. For details, call 253-859-3330 or visit www.kcls.org.<\/p>\n
Highline event presents options<\/p>\n
The public is invited to explore career and education options during Highline Community College\u2019s free Spring Festival from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the college\u2019s main campus, located at 2400 S. 240th St. in Des Moines.<\/p>\n
The festival will include a career fair with about 40 of the area\u2019s top employers; a college fair with more than 40 representatives from both in- and out-of-state, four-year colleges and universities; approximately 20 representatives from Highline\u2019s academic programs; a variety of career- and college-related workshops; and sports activities and entertainment.<\/p>\n
SmileMobile is coming to Kent<\/p>\n
The Washington Dental Service Foundation SmileMobile is coming June 3-13 to Meadow Ridge Elementary School, located at 27710 108th Ave. S.E. in Kent.<\/p>\n
A fully equipped mobile dental clinic, the SmileMobile provides dental care to children with limited family income, accepts medical coupons and operates on a sliding fee scale based on family income.<\/p>\n

Kent District needs school nurses<\/p>\n
The Kent School District has full- and part-time positions available for registered nurses with a Bachelor\u2019s Degree in nursing.<\/p>\n

KR dance-team tryouts planned<\/p>\n
Tryouts for the Kentridge High School Chatelaines Dance Team will be from 5-8 p.m. May 19-22 in the Kentridge gym.<\/p>\n
Tryouts are open to all Kentridge students in grades 9-12 that will be enrolled for the 2008-2009 school year. A mandatory meeting for all interested students will be at 6 p.m. May 12 in the gym. Optional conditioning for tryouts will be offered from 5-8 p.m. May 13 and 15 in the gym.<\/p>\n

Kent-Meridian High School will host three summer volleyball camps in June and July focused on various age groups.<\/p>\n
The Little Royals Camp will last June 30 through July 3, open to boys and girls entering the fourth grade and younger.<\/p>\n
The Elementary Camp will last June 30-July 3, open to boys and girls entering fifth and sixth grades.<\/p>\n
The Middle School Camp will last July 7-11, open to girls entering seventh and eighth grades.<\/p>\n

Video contest focused on teens<\/p>\n
The King County Women\u2019s Program and Domestic Violence Council have announced a contest for local teens to produce a video public-service announcement to call attention to teen-dating violence.<\/p>\n
The contest calls on applicants ages 13-17 in King County to develop a short creative video explaining what domestic violence is and how to make communities safer.<\/p>\n
