Washington State Patrol troopers arrested a 19-year-old Kent man near Wenatchee after he reportedly failed to stop for a trooper behind him while driving westbound on State Route 2, later crashed and then tried to flee on foot.

At about 9 a.m. Monday, Dec. 16 troopers attempted a traffic stop of a 2008 black Lincoln MKX SUV near milepost 105 in Chelan County, according to a State Patrol press release. Due to the snowy conditions, troopers did not continue the pursuit as the vehicle turned south on State Route 97 Blewett Pass.

About a mile south of State Route 2, troopers came upon the black Lincoln MKX that had collided with state Department of Transportation property, according to the State Patrol. The driver fled on foot and reportedly left a rifle inside the vehicle.

Troopers discovered that the Lincoln MKX had been reported stolen out of Douglas County. Chelan County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene and after a short K-9 deployment the man gave up without incident. He was booked into the Chelan County regional jail.

Troopers arrested the man for investigation of possession of stolen vehicle, possession of firearms, possession of stolen property, possession of drugs and hit-and-run.

Troopers closed State Route 97 for about 30 minutes during the incident.
