Renton Police have arrested a 19-year-old Renton man in the stabbing death of a 65-year-old handyman at a Renton apartment complex on Friday, Sept. 27.

The King County Superior Court found probable cause for murder against 19-year-old K’Shawn Konscience Jimerson of Renton at his first appearance hearing on Saturday, Sept. 28.

Detectives continue a homicide investigation into the victim’s death as of Monday, Sept. 30, according to Meeghan Black, a spokesperson for the Renton Police Department.

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office identified 65-year-old Kyle Dean Gray’s death as a homicide resulting from multiple stab wounds. According to the medical examiner’s office, Gray received the injuries within a Renton residence.

The Renton Police Department arrested Jimerson at the scene in the 3100 block of Northeast 18th Street, booking him on investigation of murder in the second degree.

According to first appearance documents, Renton police officers were dispatched at approximately 2:16 p.m. after Jimerson called 911 on Sept. 27, reporting he “stabbed someone.”

Dispatch further reported to police that a “male stabbed handyman inside home; patient is still conscious; reporting party will be outside with knife,” according to court documents.

Arriving officers contacted Jimerson in front of an apartment unit without a knife, and saw blood on him. Within the unit, officers found Gray lying on the living room floor, suffering from knife wounds to the chest and groin areas. Officers and responding medics attempted lifesaving measures on Gray prior to Gray’s death at the scene, according to documents.

Police detained Jimerson at the scene.

Neighbors stated to police they heard argument and scuffling in the unit prior to seeing Jimerson standing outside covered in blood and holding a bloody knife, described as a “large butcher knife with a point,” according to first appearance documents.

At the time of Jimerson’s first appearance hearing, police had not located the knife utilized in the stabbing.

King County prosecutors argued to hold Jimerson at his first appearance hearing, with the court setting Jimerson’s bail at $50,000. Jimerson remains in custody, as of Sept. 30, according to Casey McNerthney, a spokesperson for the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

The court set the rush-file charging deadline for Wednesday, Oct. 2. Renton detectives continue investigation into the homicide, with prosecutors anticipating the reception of a case referral for a charging decision by Wednesday.
