King County prosecutors have charged a 41-year-old suspect in a drive-by shooting in Auburn on Sept. 8 that left a man in critical condition.

Prosecutors charged Justo Giovany Salgado-Reyes, 41, of Auburn on Sept. 19 with assault in the first degree and drive-by shooting for the Sept. 8 shooting that struck an apartment complex in the 1200 block of 30th Street Southeast, leaving a 22-year-old man in critical condition.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, Auburn police responded to the apartment complex at approximately 1:53 a.m. after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered an unconscious man with multiple gunshot wounds to his lower torso.

Following medical attention at the scene, first responders transported the man to Harborview Medical Center.

Multiple witnesses identified a red sedan as the source of the gunfire.

A Flock surveillance camera captured the license plate of the reported sedan with police identifying Salgado-Reyes as the suspect in the shooting through his prior contact history with the department.

Through the execution of a search warrant on Salgado-Reyes’s vehicle, police discovered a spent shell casing in his vehicle matching the casings from the scene of the shooting.

Upon his arrest, Salgado-Reyes stated to police he transported the shooter in his backseat and that the shooter threatened him.

Prosecutors argued for the court to set Salgado-Reyes’s bail at $750,000 at his first appearance hearing, stating he “[sprayed] the apartment and the victim with bullets.”

The King County Superior Court scheduled Salgado-Reyes’s arraignment for Oct. 3 at the Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent.
