A 26-year-old Kent man faces multiple charges after he allegedly violently attacked a 29-year-old Kent woman as she walked on a Central Avenue North sidewalk.

King County prosecutors on Thursday, Sept. 19 charged Troy Stanley Walton with first-degree kidnapping, first-degree attempted rape, second-degree assault with sexual motivation and indecent liberties. Walton did not know the woman.

Walton is scheduled to be arraigned at 9 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3 in the GA courtroom of the Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent. He remains in custody at the King County Correctional Facility in Seattle with bail set at $750,000, according to jail records.

The woman was attacked from behind at about 9:20 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 15 in the 1000 block of Central Ave. N., according to Kent Police. The location is just north of Kent Memorial Park.

“In broad daylight, the defendant followed the victim, who was walking on the sidewalk, ran up behind her and carried her off into the bushes,” wrote Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Mylla Dawson in charging papers. “While the victim was trying to fight off the defendant, he was attempting to pull her pants down.”

Dawson wrote that Walton reportedly punched the woman six to eight times in the face, but she still continued to fight, afraid the defendant might kill her.

“Because she continued to fight, the defendant decided to strangle her until she lost consciousness,” Dawson wrote. “The victim awoke to the defendant’s face and hands on her breasts, and it was at this time that she was able to bite the defendant’s hand with enough force that he got off of her, and she was able to escape the brutal attack.”

The woman was treated at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle and released, according to police.

A day after the attack, Kent detectives tracked down surveillance footage from businesses near the attack and were able to obtain clear images that were given to patrol officers. On Sept. 17, police located Walton near the Kent Transit Center. He reportedly wore the same clothes as the day of the attack.

Walton allegedly admitted to the entire attack during an interview with detectives, according to charging documents. He said he walked away after she kept fighting back. When detectives asked him if he felt bad for what he did, he responded no.

The woman took a bus home from Seattle and arrived at at Kent Station. She was walking home toward her apartment when the attack occurred near the McMonigal Vet Hospital.

Walton’s criminal history included a conviction for fourth-degree assault with sexual motivation earlier this year, according to charging papers. On Aug. 6, he walked up to a cashier (a stranger) at a Fred Meyer store and slapped her buttocks hard enough that she felt lasting pain and sustained bruising. He confessed to the assault.
