The mother of the man reportedly shot by a Kent Police officer at the Madison Plaza Apartments has started a GoFundMe page to help pay for her son’s burial.

“It is with a heavy heart that I share the devastating news of the unexpected passing of my son, Christian Demetri Moshofsky, on Aug. 28,” wrote Adrianne Arrington, of Tacoma, the organizer of the fundraiser. “This tragedy is indescribable for our family. Christian was not only a beloved son but also a dedicated father, brother, cherished cousin and dear friend to countless individuals.”

Moshofsky, 33, died from a gunshot wound of head, according to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Officers responded at about 12:40 a.m. to the apartments after a 911 caller reported sounds of six to seven gunshots being fired, according to a Aug. 28 Kent Police news release. The seven-story complex, which opened in 2022 at 102 Madison Ave., sits just east of Highway 167.

Officers arrived in the area and were outside of their patrol vehicles when they heard more gunshots that were believed to have been fired at them, according to the news release. One officer returned fire towards Moshofsky who was on an upper story of the apartment complex.

The Valley Independent Investigative Team, which includes the police departments of Auburn, Des Moines, Federal Way, Tukwila, Renton and Port of Seattle, was called in to conduct the investigation of the officer shooting, which will exclude the Kent Police from investigating its own officer. The Port of Seattle Police Department is leading the investigation. As of Sept. 10, the agency had not yet issued an update.

No officers were injured, and the involved officer will be placed on administrative leave, following standard protocol, according to Kent Police.

Arrington described her son on the GoFundMe page.

“At just 33 years old, he worked tirelessly to provide for his son and care for his mother, nieces and nephews,” she said. “His spirit of kindness and love will forever be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing him.”

Arrington said in honor of her son’s memory, she launched the GoFundMe campaign to assist with the costs of giving him the dignified burial he deserves.

“Our heartfelt wish is to lay him to rest alongside his beloved grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother,” she said.
