For the fourth time in the last eight months, firefighters extinguished a fire at an abandoned house in the 100 block of Naden Avenue South in Kent.

Firefighters responded at about 1:45 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29 to the fire, according to a Aug. 30 email from Puget Sound Fire spokesperson Pat Pawlak. The house sits just south of West Meeker Street and east of Highway 167.

“This is the same abandoned house that has had previous fires,” Pawlak said. “This is the fourth fire in the past eight months.”

The cause of the fire is expected to be the same in each case.

“The cause of the fire is believed to be associated with known transient activity on this property,” Pawlak said.

Firefighters were at the same property Aug. 12. Kent Police also responded to that call and interviewed transients in the area but no arrests were made, according to police.

Nobody was spotted near the most recent fire.

“We did not see any homeless people in the area,” Pawlak said.

Firefighters, for their safety, fought the fire defensively, Pawlak said. They extinguished the main body of the fire in about 30 minutes but were on scene for an additional 90 minutes to put out hotspots.

Eight fire department units responded, bringing about 18 fire department personnel, Pawlak said. One firefighter received treatment for a heat-related injury.
