A high-speed collision along northbound Interstate 5 in SeaTac at about 1 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22 fully blocked the lanes for nearly four hours and led to major traffic delays during the morning commute.

Troopers arrested a 19-year-old Seattle man for investigation of vehicular assault, according to a Aug. 22 Washington State Patrol press release. He was showing signs of impairment, according to troopers.

The State Patrol received 911 calls reporting a serious collision on northbound I-5 just south of South 188th Street. Troopers arrived and saw a 2022 Toyota Tacoma in the left ditch and that the driver had been ejected. The 54-year-old Federal Way man sustained facial injuries and paramedics transported him to a local hospital where he was in stable condition, according to the press release.

A bit north of the Toyota troopers saw a 2021 Kia Sportage that was on its top in lane three with the driver out of the vehicle and walking around.

It was determined that the Kia was traveling at an extremely high speed, cutting in and out of traffic, and struck the right rear of the Toyota causing it to roll, according to the State Patrol, which released a video of the incident on X.com, formerly Twitter.

State Patrol detectives are seeking anyone that witnessed or observed the Kia prior to the collision. Please email Detective Ivan Sergeev at Ivan.Sergeev@wsp.wa.gov.
