Neighbors gathered at 63 events across Kent on Tuesday evening, Aug. 6 for National Night Out.

“This annual event is all about building those relationships and that trust that is so essential to creating safer communities for everyone,” according to a Kent Police statement.

Kent Police help organize gatherings throughout the city. Mayor Dana Ralph, Police Chief Rafael Padilla, City Council members, officers and city staff head out into the community to visit with neighbors and enjoy some fellowship, food, music and games.

Communities across the country participate in National Night Out in an effort to get to know neighbors, look out for each other and prevent crime.

Organizers had to register their event with the city in order to get visitors from the city of Kent to stop by and say hello and share some food and fun. Neighborhood events include potlucks, food trucks, desserts, games, talent shows and other activities.

“We had another incredible National Night Out,” according to police.
