{"id":7018,"date":"2014-08-19T13:29:40","date_gmt":"2014-08-19T20:29:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spiken.wpengine.com\/news\/becu-awards-5000-to-kent-firefighters-foundation\/"},"modified":"2016-10-23T08:45:26","modified_gmt":"2016-10-23T15:45:26","slug":"becu-awards-5000-to-kent-firefighters-foundation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kentreporter.com\/business\/becu-awards-5000-to-kent-firefighters-foundation\/","title":{"rendered":"BECU awards $5,000 to Kent Firefighters Foundation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><p>The <a title=\"fire\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kentfirefighters.org\/index.cfm?zone=\/unionactive\/view_page.cfm&amp;page=Firefighters20Foundation\" target=\"_self\">Kent Firefighters Foundation <\/a>received $5,000 from BECU&#8217;s People Helping People Awards.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>As part of BECU\u2019s commitment to the causes of its members and giving back to the community, BECU awarded $100,000 to 16 local non-profit organizations through the program, according to an Aug. 18 BECU media release.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>The winners were selected from more than 500 organizations nominated by BECU members with causes ranging from providing new school clothes to children in need to helping women military veterans adjust to civilian life.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\u201cWe were overwhelmed with the response we received from our membership,\u201d said Sara Moorehead, BECU vice president of co-op affairs. \u201cIt solidifies for us that our members are truly living out the credit union philosophy of People Helping People.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>The Kent Firefighters Foundation, a registered non-profit organization that engages in charitable and educational efforts in Kent, Covington, SeaTac and surrounding communities, donates to numerous groups.
