Federal Way Police officers shot and injured a man after he was involved in a domestic violence situation while holding a gun.

At about 5:45 a.m. Sunday, July 7 at the Kitts Corner Apartments, 1201 S. 336th St., officers were dispatched to a domestic violence situation with shots fired that ended in the alleged perpetrator being non-fatally shot by officers, according to Federal Way Police Department Cmdr. Kyle Buchanan. The 42-year-old man is from Orting.

According to Buchanan, the 911 caller said the man was trying to break into the apartment she was in through the rear patio while possessing a firearm. Buchanan said when officers arrived on the scene, they witnessed the man still at the rear patio holding a firearm. During the encounter, two officers discharged their weapons, shooting the man, Buchanan said. Subsequently, officers rendered aid to the man before he was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Buchanan said.

The man was expected to survive his injuries, and according to Buchanan, no officers or others were injured. Additionally, Buchanan said the officers were placed on administrative leave per department policy. Buchanan said the Valley Independent Investigation Team responded and is investigating the incident.
