When Federal Way Memorial Stadium was under renovation in the spring and summer of 2023, one of the goals was to host state tournament games and events.

That goal has been achieved in the stadium’s first year of use. On June 5, the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) announced that the Class 2A and 1A high school state boys soccer tournament will be moved from Renton Memorial Stadium to Federal Way for 2025 to 2028.

“We are excited about the opportunity to host this event. Additionally, we will also host 1B/2B state soccer again next fall. And, will continue to host WCD3 Soccer,” Federal Way Public Schools Director of Equity and Athletics Jerry Peterson told The Federal Way Mirror newspaper.

The 4,000-seat stadium, next to Federal Way High School, with new turf, locker rooms, bathrooms, concessions and everything in between will provide an excellent experience for all involved, he said.

Back in the fall, Federal Way hosted Class 2B/1B boys and girls soccer for its first state tournament action that saw Crosspoint (Bremerton) take home the crown on the girls side and Upper Columbia Academy (Spangle) win the boys tournament. The hope is that the facility continues to host high level events and bring people all over the state to Federal Way.
