Kentridge High School’s production of “Evita” won for Outstanding Music Direction at the recent 5th Avenue Awards.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

“Evita” was nominated in several categories. Kentridge was nominated for 12 awards, including three honorable mentions and a special award for educational impact.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Under Jennifer Grajewski, drama and artistic director at Kentridge, the musical “Evita” traced the inspiring true story of the First Lady of Argentina and her struggles to become the most powerful political and spiritual leader of her country.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Grajewski’s cast \u2013 46 Kentridge students and 21 children ages 5-10 from Kent and Renton elementary schools \u2013 took on the challenge.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The musical also received an honorable mention for Outstanding Direction. Josh Curtis, who portrayed Che, received an honorable mention for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The 5th Avenue Awards are an annual, Tony-style award ceremony honoring outstanding achievement in musical theatre throughout the state. More than 88 schools competed this year.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
