The Kent\/Auburn Little League Major All-Star fastpitch team opened the state tournament at Northshore Athletic Field in Woodinville with a bang Saturday, hammering South Highline 17-1.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Kalina Despain worked a gem in the circle, going all four innings and allowing just one hit.\u00a0 Maddy Seumalo led the offense with a double, home run and two RBIs. Also chipping in to the onslaught were Ashley Myrseth Barrea (3 hits, 3 RBIs), Dani Hutson (2 hits, 2 RBIs) and Morgan Emery (2 hits, 2 RBIs).<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The Kent\/Auburn stars were unable to continue the offensive momentum, falling to Cascade, 3-2. Allison Hand and Jordan Engman each collected an RBI double in the loss. Lisa Kamaunu, Engman and Seumalo combined in the circle to hold Cascade to just three runs.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was a very good game, we just couldn\u2019t get the bats going,\u201d said coach Jeff Kalka.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The weekend split put Kent\/Auburn into the consolation round, where fell to Pacific Monday night, 9-4.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Ashley Myrseth-Barrea supplied the big offensive highlight in the loss, delivering an RBI triple.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
“It was just a rough game,” Kalka said. “Their pitching was very good, and our bats didn’t wake up.”<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
