King County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) reported that an adult and three minors were killed March 19 in a multiple vehicle collision that occurred in the Cascade-Fairwood neighborhood, which is east of Kent and south of Renton.

More than 24 hours after the incident, little is known about the cause and circumstances surrounding a “mass casualty” collision that occurred at the intersection of SE 192nd Street and 140th Avenue SE in the Fairwood area of unincorporated King County.

KCSO confirmed that their deputies and aid units from Puget Sound Fire Authority responded and found four vehicles with multiple victims involved in the mid-day collision in unincorporated King County.

KCSO announced that among the injured were three patients with life-threatening injuries, one patient with minor injuries, and four people who were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office reports the deceased as Andrea Hudson, 38; Matilda Wilcoxson, 13; Eloise Wilcoxson, 12; and Boyd Brown, 12. Their manner of death was listed as “multiple blunt force injuries.”

The roadway was closed for several hours while KCSO detectives conducted the investigation. The Renton Reporter reached out to several of the responding agencies to request further details of the incident, but no information was made available until the KCSO’s announcement on March 20.

Detectives identified the causing driver as an 18-year-old male, who was among the injured and is currently being treated at Harborview Medical Center. Authorities say he is under guard and criminal charges are pending.

“Our condolences go out to the families who have been impacted by this unimaginable tragedy,” said KCSO Sgt. Eric White in a statement regarding the incident.

Fundraiser for family

A GoFundMe page has been started for the family of Andrea Hudson, who was one of the people who died in the March 19 collision. Two of Hudson’s children were critically injured in the crash and were taken to Harborview Medical Center. As of this posting Wednesday afternoon, the page had raised nearly $20,000.

According to the page, Hudson had been driving her van with her two children and three children of her close friends to a homeschool activity when the van was struck by another vehicle.
