Kent Police arrested a man for investigation of fourth-degree assault for allegedly punching his girlfriend and busted him for offenses against a police dog after he reportedly punched the animal in the face after it found him hiding under a backyard tarp.

An officer kicked the man in the chest to get him away from the dog during the incident at about 3:03 a.m. April 13 that started near East Smith Street and Central Avenue North, according to the police report.

A 911 caller reported a man punching a woman in a car northbound on Central Avenue and gave the license plate number to police. Officers showed up at the home of the car’s registered owner and found the engine still warm on the car parked outside the home.

A woman at the house told police she and her boyfriend had argued in the car after he wanted her to leave a nearby bar even though she didn’t want to go. But the boyfriend wasn’t in the house and had fled on foot after he saw police arrive.

Officers searched the house and then used a K9 unit to find the man in a neighbor’s backyard hiding under a blue tarp. The man punched the police dog in the face several times. The man had bite marks on his calf and was later treated at the Valley Medical Center for the minor injury before police transported him to the city jail.

Assault

Officers arrested a woman for investigation of fourth-degree assault for allegedly punching her girlfriend during a dispute at about 10:52 p.m. April 12 in a parking lot in the 21500 block of 84th Avenue South.

A caller reported a fight between a couple of women near a Ford Explorer so officers went to investigate, according to the police report.

Officers arrested a woman in the SUV for giving a false name to police.

A witness said two women got in an argument at the nearby Gator’s bar, and one of the women left on foot to walk home. One of the women apparently tried to get her girlfriend back in the vehicle and the two swung at each other. One of the women had a cut under her chin.

“Man, if I knew I was going to jail, I would have really kicked her ass,” said the woman arrested by officers.

Obstructing

Police arrested a man for obstructing after he reportedly gave several false names to officers as they talked to him about a stolen vehicle case on April 12 near Central Avenue and East Meeker Street.

An officer on another call saw a silver Honda speed past him going northbound on Central Avenue at an estimated speed of 90 mph, according to the police report.

The vehicle pulled into the Jack in the Box drive through where an officer activated his car’s overhead lights to stop the vehicle. The officer saw a a driver and then another man in the backseat who had wet and muddy pants. The officer had assisted about an hour earlier in a search for man in a muddy field who had allegedly stolen a vehicle. The man in the backseat seemed to fit the description of the man police were looking for.

But when police tried to interview the man, he kept giving them false names. He didn’t have any identification on him.

Reckless driving

Officers arrested a man for investigation of reckless driving after he reportedly burned his tires at about 4:06 p.m. April 13 at a parking lot for the Soos Creek Trail in the 26600 block of 148th Avenue Southeast.

An officer drove by the parking lot when he heard an engine rev and then heard a loud screech of tires burning out through the lot, according to the police report. The tires left a 180-degree skid mark.

Police stopped the car near the parking lot. The driver described his driving as being stupid.
