Kent Police were busy over the weekend, including arrests of men on warrants for escape, assault and a fugitive from justice.

Escape warrant

At about 3:45 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 1, an officer was conducting extra patrols near the 1200 block of West Meeker Street, and noticed several subjects loitering behind a dumpster in the parking lot. This location has a trespass agreement with the City of Kent, so the officer stopped to contact the subjects.

One man, age 37, saw him and briskly started to walk away. The officer recognized him as someone with a state Department of Corrections (DOC) warrant and told him to stop.

According to police, the suspect refused, and tried to resist arrest, but additional officers arrived and wrestled him to the ground. At one point he was reportedly lying on his back and flexing to keep officers from handcuffing him. Eventually they rolled him onto his belly, but then he allegedly started to kick them. His struggles were unsuccessful, and he was placed into custody.

A search of the man during arrest reportedly located multiple hypodermic needles and a bag of fentanyl.

The man and the officers were uninjured.

The suspect was arrested for investigation of possession of an unlawful substance and transported and booked into SCORE jail in Des Moines for his felony DOC warrant for escape from community custody for a second-degree assault.

Fugitive from justice

On Saturday, Dec. 2, an officer was on routine patrol in the 23100 block of 84th Avenue South and located a suspicious vehicle. Upon investigation he contacted a 39-year-old Olympia man who had multiple warrants.

One of his warrants was for $15,000 out of Nevada. Officers arrested him for for being a fugitive from justice due to his out-of-state warrant. He was transported to the King County jail. A search of the man during arrest reportedly turned up a vehicle registration belonging to a woman, and two ID cards belonging to another man.

DV assault warrant

At about 11:30 p.m. on Saturday Dec. 2, an officer was dispatched to the ARCO at 104th Avenue SE and SE 256th Street regarding suspicious subjects, possibly with a gun. Officers arrived and located the suspicious vehicle still on scene. The employee/witness stated that the vehicle had been parked outside the store for over a half hour.

He began to watch the car via the security camera, and saw a vehicle passenger, a 38-year-old Kent man, take a gun out of his waistband and appear to load it while inside the car. The witness was not threatened with the gun, but understandably was concerned for his safety after watching it being loaded outside his store.

Officers detained the suspect and determined that the gun was a BB gun. However, the subject seen loading it had multiple warrants including one for a domestic violence protection order violation for $10,100, and one for fourth-degree assault DV for $10,000, both recently issued. He was booked into the city of Kent jail. The man had been arrested in September for violating the DV no contact order for an assault on his father. All subjects in the car were trespassed.

Felony DV assault

On Sunday afternoon, Dec. 3, two officers responded to a West Hill apartment complex (police did not release the address or name of the apartments) in reference to a domestic violence assault that occurred over a period of days. The officers were notified that the suspect, a 38-year-old Seattle man, had a gun and had fled on a skateboard.

Officers located the suspect while en route to the call; he had a BB gun on his person that appeared to be a real black semi-automatic pistol.

The suspect’s girlfriend, a 38-year-old Kent woman, told the officers that she had been hit several times over the past couple of days. The suspect had reportedly threatened to kill her, and left significant injuries on her face, neck and hand.

The man reportedly also attempted to strangle her. He was taken into custody for investigation of DV second-degree assault for the strangulation, felony protection order violation for violating a protection order while assaulting her, and DV felony harassment for threatening to kill her. He was transported to the King County jail and booked without incident.

Police remind victims of domestic violence to call 911 for help.

[9,4
["post-66441","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-home","category-news
