The Kent Schools Foundation recently awarded nearly $50,000 in grants to 36 schools in the Kent School District, including the Digital Learning Program.

These grants will support various educational initiatives and provide resources to enhance the learning experience for students, according to a Kent Schools Foundation press release.

The grants, made possible by generous donations from local businesses and community members, will be distributed across a wide range of disciplines, including science, technology, mathematics and arts education. The funding will enable schools to implement innovative teaching methods, purchase new educational materials and technology and enhance extracurricular programs.

“These grants make such a difference to KSD staff and students,” said Allyson Johnson, vice president and grants chair of the Kent Schools Foundation. “These grants help provide an author visit to the school, fund a field trip, purchase books for a library or classroom, purchase art supplies and the list goes on and on.”

One of the grant recipients is the district’s Digital Learning Program, which aims to enhance digital literacy and provide students with opportunities to develop critical skills needed for success in the 21st century. This grant will also help five elementary schools.

The Kent Schools Foundation has a long history of supporting educational initiatives in the community. Through its grants program, the foundation has provided thousands of dollars in funding to support projects that improve student achievement and enhance the overall quality of education in the district.

The grants were officially presented to the schools and the Kent School District Digital Learning Program on Nov. 13-16.

“Delivering the checks to the schools and seeing the teachers when they hear they are getting the grant just makes my heart melt,” Johnson said. “It is the best part of being a volunteer.”
