A 30-year-old Kent man faces two counts of first-degree attempted rape of a child charges after he allegedly targeted the sexual abuse of minors during an online undercover operation by the Redmond Police.

Christopher Alan Remsing is scheduled to be arraigned at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27 in room E1201A at the King County Courthouse in Seattle. As of Sept. 15, he remained in the King County Correctional Facility in Seattle with bail set at $750,000.

Officers arrested Remsing Sept. 12 in Redmond after he reportedly showed up in response to an online advertisement posted by detectives seeking a babysitter wanting unsupervised access to minor children, according to charging documents filed Sept. 14 by the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors charged Remsing with one count of an attempt to have intercourse with a fictitious 6-year-old boy and one count on the same charge with a fictitious 4-year-old girl, according to court documents.

“It would be nearly impossible to overstate the risk of the defendant to children in the community in this case,” wrote Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Anela Ramic in charging documents. “The depraved nature of his stated intentions, which would have been carried out with live children, but for the chance that he engaged with an undercover officer, demonstrate his risk to the community.”

Remsing reportedly responded Aug. 22 by text to the cellphone number with the ad and made numerous statements indicating he was sexually interested in children and would trade access to them for babysitting services.

When Remsing arrived Sept. 12 in Redmond at a local apartment, he was reportedly carrying a backpack containing condoms, toys and children’s movies, according to police. An undercover officer posed as the single mother of the two children. Officers arrested Remsing at the apartment complex.

Search warrants were executed on his vehicle and apartment. Detectives allegedly located several hundred pairs of children’s underwear and articles of clothing, along with multiple electronic devices that are currently being forensically examined. The investigation is ongoing.

“We are committed to catching and holding accountable anyone who engages in the sexual exploitation of a child,” said Redmond Police Chief Darrell Lowe. “These crimes can happen anywhere. We are dedicated to identifying and catching predators before they can victimize a child.”

A friend of Remsing’s reportedly told detectives that Remsing would observe children in their Kent apartment complex outside playing with their sidewalk chalk, according to charging papers. Remsing then allegedly purchased chalk so he could go outside and play with the neighborhood children.

Detectives believe there may be more victims and ask anyone with additional information to contact the Redmond Police Department at 425-556-2500.

Parents are encouraged to use extra caution when searching online for a babysitter, according to police. Find a sitter through trusted sources or check with family or friends who may know someone looking for childcare jobs. Ask for references and research the candidate on a web search engine and social media platforms. If possible, run a background check on the candidate.

Anyone with information on suspected child sexual exploitation can contact their local police department or submit a tip to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at 1-800-843-5678 or on its website at missingkids.org/home.

Reportedly responded to babysitting ad as part of a Redmond Police online undercover operation

[9,4
["post-64463","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-home","category-news
