A 54-year-old Gig Harbor man was killed in Kent after his dump truck sustained a blown tire, went out of control and crashed on northbound State Route 167 near Willis Street.

The crash was at about 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, according to a phone interview with Trooper Rick Johnson of the Washington State Patrol. No other vehicles were involved and the truck had just one occupant.

The truck was traveling northbound in lane one of three when it sustained a blown tire and crossed the gore point (a triangle-shaped zone) of the entrance ramp from State Route 516 (aka Willis Street), according to a State Patrol media report. The truck rolled and came to rest on its driver’s side. Jeffrey A. Still, the driver, died at the scene, according to the State Patrol.

Johnson said the truck was hauling mud. Much of the mud spilled onto the ramp. Troopers closed the ramp for several hours for the crash investigation and the removal of the truck and mud.
