A residential fire in Renton on Aug. 25 killed one person and hospitalized a second person.

Crews from the Renton Regional Fire Authority, Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority, and King County Medic One responded to the nighttime fire.

According to the Renton Regional Fire Authority, crews were dispatched at approximately 12:20 a.m. Aug. 25 to a residential fire in the 12300 block of Southeast 166th Street after receiving a report from a neighbor behind the location. A second neighbor called and reported banging on the doors to alert the residents.

Crews en route to the scene received reports that one victim escaped the house, with an additional resident and animals potentially still in the building.

Initial arriving crews arrived to a “fully involved house fire” engulfing a one-story house, according to the fire department.

First responders treated one individual at the scene and transported the individual in critical condition to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Crews located a deceased individual within the home after achieving a “good knockdown” on the fire, in addition to four cats, according to the authority. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigators arrived at the scene to work with Renton Fire investigators because the fire caused a fatality. Renton Animal Control arrived to assist with the cats.

Investigation into the cause of the fire continues.
