It will be a Nov. 7 general ballot Kent City Council race between John Boyd and Kelly Wiggans-Crawford to replace Les Thomas.

Boyd and Wiggans-Crawford received the most votes among five candidates on the Aug. 1 primary ballot to advance to the general election.

Boyd has 37.58% (4,904 votes) and Wiggans-Crawford 22.06% (2,878 votes) with most ballots counted as of Aug. 8, according to King County Elections. Lee ranks third with 21.11% (2,754 votes) followed by Cody T. Clark 9.75% (1,272 votes) and Michael Ferguson 9.04% (1,180 votes).

“At this point in the election, we’re pretty much done counting returned ballots,” said Halei Watkins, King County Elections communications manager, in an Aug. 8 email. “It looks like the City of Kent has 92 voters with outstanding signature challenges. Those voters will receive a letter from us (plus phone call and email, if we have that info on file) to ask them to complete and return a simple form to have their ballot counted.”

Those forms must be returned to King County Elections by 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 14.

Boyd is a retired lead quality inspector from Boeing and Wiggans-Crawford is a certified paralegal. Thomas didn’t run for reelection as he completes his 20th year on the council.

Other races

Three other Kent City Council positions will be on the Nov. 7 ballot.

Jessie Ramsey is challenging incumbent Marli Larimer for Position No. 1. Darryl Jones is taking on incumbent Zandria Michaud for Position No. 7. Incumbent Bill Boyce is running unopposed.

Only races with more than two candidates appeared on the primary ballot.

Voters elected Councilmembers Toni Troutner, Brenda Fincher and Satwinder Kaur to four-year terms in November 2021. Troutner defeated Cliff Cawthon, Fincher beat Larry Hussey and Kaur ran unopposed.

Boyce and Kaur ran for the Legislative District 47 Senate seat in 2022 won by Claudia Kauffman, D-Kent.
