Aegis Living Kent doesn’t hesitate to have a little fun each year when it comes to celebrating Father’s Day.

The assisted living facility at 10421 SE 248th Street on June 15 held its fourth annual “A’Dad’emy Awards” to honor some of the community’s leading men known as “dad” to their loved ones.

Biggest Sweet Tooth, Most Compassionate Dad and Best Skiing Yodeler were just a few of the awards given out.

Channeling a night at the Oscars, the community orchestrated a night to remember, including a prime rib dinner and encouraged residents to dress up for the event. Family members joined in person and shared celebratory messages for the recipients honored. General manager Mina White and Enrichment director Brian Kohler emceed the night, handed out awards and infused plenty of dad jokes to keep attendees laughing through the night.

“This is our fourth year hosting the A‘DAD’emy Awards and it’s always a fun event for the men at our community,” Kohler said. “All jokes aside, I think it means a lot for our residents to be recognized in such special and personalized ways from their loved ones.”

Every year, Aegis Living Kent contacts the family members of their male residents to nominate them for an award that best sums up their character, personality, or other fun fact. Residents are also encouraged to nominate husbands and partners as part of the special occasion.

Other awards given out included Best Mentor, High-Five Dad, Lazy-Boy Chair Dad, Best Singing Dad, Best Car Detailer on Beacon Hill, Best Chauffeur, Best Navigator, Best Volunteer, The Puzzle Man, The Ice Cream Man and The Teddy Bear.

One family shared of their loved one:

“Our dad is the best dad ever. He was always there for his four children. He coached many of our sporting events and cheered us on to victory. He taught us many things about life and how to be a good person.”

The Aegis team enjoys the event just as much as the residents and their families, especially the opportunity to learn even more about the special people they care for each day.

“My favorite part is reading the nominations from our residents’ loved ones,” White said. “We are a community that cherishes and collaborates with family and friends to build special moments continually. It’s a joy to spend an evening recognizing these men, their fatherhood and the love they share with their family.”
