Kent Police are investigating the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old Kent man on the East Hill as a homicide.<\/p>\n

Baba Jawara died June 5 from a gunshot wound of the chest, according to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office.<\/p>\n

Officers responded at about 11:15 p.m. June 4 to the area of 11300 SE Kent-Kangley Road<\/a> in response to a 911 call of a shooting, according to a Kent Police statement released June 12. Officers found Jawara with a gunshot wound to his chest.<\/p>\n

Jawara was initially alert and conscious, according to police. Paramedics transported Jawara to an area hospital where he died the next day.<\/p>\n

Detectives have been interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence. No arrest has been made.<\/p>\n

“They (detectives) do not believe this was a random incident,” according to the police statement.<\/p>\n

Police are asking that anyone with information about the shooting to call the police tip line at 253-852-2121 or email KPDtipline@kentwa.gov. If your information is time sensitive, call 911.<\/p>\n

Eighth homicide this year<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is the eighth homicide in Kent in 2023. Kent had 11 homicides in 2022, 14 in 2021, eight in 2020, four in 2019 and seven in 2018.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
