Firefighters from Kent-based Puget Sound Fire, Valley Regional Fire Authority, Renton Regional Fire Authority and Eastside Fire & Rescue recently completed swift water rescue training on the Snoqualmie River near the Snoqualmie Falls.

More than 80 firefighters received the training, about 20 per day over April 24-27, according to Pat Pawlak, Puget Sound Fire spokesperson.

“Firefighters typically attend three different types of swift water training each year,” Pawlak said.

This training was designed to provide firefighters with the knowledge and skills needed to identify hazards, self-rescue and effectively manage rescues in swift water environments.

Firefighters rappelled approximately 150 feet down to the riverbank. They also entered the water to search a partially submerged training prop vehicle.
