A minivan drove through a bedroom wall of an apartment in the 11300 block of Southeast Kent Kangley Road on Thursday evening, the Kent Fire Department reported.

No one was home at the time of the incident.

Kent Fire personnel were dispatched to the call at 8:40 p.m. after a vehicle in a parking stall suddenly moved forward after the driver stepped on the accelerator, not realizing the car was in gear. The driver was not injured in the crash, but several structural members in the wall were knocked free and there was concern for the integrity of the two-story building, fire officials said.

The upstairs apartment was evacuated as a precaution and a city of Kent building official was called out to determine whether the building was safe for occupation. That official determined that the building was stable but that the two families affected should be relocated until a more thorough examination could be done in the daylight.

Power to the apartment that the vehicle crashed into has been shut off to ensure that the compromised electrical wiring would not short out and cause a fire.
