For the Reporter

Kent Station hosts its annual college scholarship fundraiser – Moolah for Schoolah – for Green River College students throughout March.

Kent Station began the program in 2007 to provide scholarships to Kent graduates attending GRC. Since then, Kent Station has provided 31 scholarships worth more than $41,000 to students who might not have been able to afford college otherwise.

Customers can participate by picking up a Moolah for Schoolah “passport” available at participating Kent Station merchants. Customers will receive a sticker for going into each business and will receive an additional sticker each time they spend money at the merchant during the month.

For each sticker that is given out, Kent Station will donate $1 to the Kent Station-Green River College Scholarship Fund.

Customers can pick up a passport throughout the month and then drop them off at any participating business by April 4.

“I was very happy to learn that I was a recipient of the Moolah for Schoolah scholarship,” said Yelena Arkhipchuk, one of the program’s 2015 recipients. “By awarding me the scholarship, I am able to concentrate on what is important for me: education. Your financial generosity has allowed me to be one step closer to my goal and has inspired me to help others by giving back to the community. Thank you very much.”

In addition, each sticker will give Kent Station customers the opportunity to win one of 10 prizes, including the grand prize of a $500 shopping spree at Kent Station, plus gift cards ranging from $25 to $100.

Prize winners are selected at random on April 11.

Windermere at Kent Station donated to the promotion, helping to offset the costs and make it possible to reach the program’s $5,000 donation goal.

“The new passport is going to make Moolah for Schoolah a fun promotion to participate in.” said Cynthia Boyd, Kent Station marketing manager. “Our scholarships allow local high school graduates to achieve their dreams of higher education and thus giving them more opportunities to be successful members of our business community. We are always proud of our partnership with Green River College and the Green River College Foundation.”
