A fight between two 17-year-old girls in a Kentlake High School bathroom reportedly led to a “small mob” of students yelling at deputies and a fight outside the school after family members of the girls arrived.<\/p>\n
Details about the Dec. 16 fight emerged in a King County Sheriff’s Office summary report released Dec. 27 to the Kent Reporter after a public records request. Nobody was injured and deputies did not make any arrests.<\/p>\n
The incident started at about 11:20 a.m. and lasted until about 12:28 p.m., according to the report. Extra deputies were called in to handle the fights at the school, 21401 SE Falcon Way, in unincorporated King County, east of the Kent city limits.<\/p>\n
Kentlake officials canceled a school assembly later that day and a boys basketball game later that night against rival Kentwood due to the high tension on the campus over the incident.<\/p>\n
Deputies responded to a 911 call from Kentlake staff, according to the report. A deputy arrived and found a girl sitting on the floor and crying in a bathroom. The girl said she was jumped over some type of social media post.<\/p>\n
The girl said she was assaulted on her lip and stomach. The deputy reported the girl had a very small cut on her lip. She denied a request by the deputy for medical assistance.<\/p>\n
While the deputy spoke to the girl, another deputy entered the bathroom and said the girl needed to be moved because a large crowd of students was forming outside the bathroom and were attempting to come in, according to the report.<\/p>\n
“A group of kids busted through the door and were screaming and yelling at us,” the deputy wrote in the report. “We advised dispatch and asked for more units.”<\/p>\n
The deputies managed to de-escalate the students and got them out of the bathroom.<\/p>\n
“They were angry we were there and would not let them speak with (the girl),” according to the deputy’s notes. “While dealing with them, (the girl) was screaming and crying that she wanted to be left alone.”<\/p>\n
The deputy reported that once they handled the “small mob” they moved the girl to a side room that was secure. The deputy continued to interview the girl who reportedly became upset after she was told a police report would be generated. She reportedly became verbally aggressive and started swearing at the deputy and said she would take care of the incident on her own, according to the report.<\/p>\n
The two deputies then heard about a fight outside the front of the school. They met up with another deputy who told them there was a fight between adult family members of the girl and other kids.<\/p>\n
The girl’s family had arrived to pick her up and reportedly started a fight with kids in the parking lot, according to the report. A sister of the girl reportedly ran down a car that was leaving the school grounds, according to the report.<\/p>\n
Deputies helped the girl get in the car and the family left. As the car was leaving, the girl reportedly opened the rear passenger door and stood halfway out of the vehicle. She was screaming that she was going to sue the school and everyone who was there.<\/p>\n
The second girl involved in the incident told a deputy that the first girl had been telling everyone for the past week that she was going to fight her and another friend, according to the report. So when the second girl saw the first girl in the bathroom, she said she decided to “jump” her because of what she had been telling everyone about fighting her.<\/p>\n
The parents of the second girl arrived at the school to pick her up and take her home. Students outside the school reportedly attempted to attack the girl but she was able to leave with her family in their car.<\/p>\n
Other deputies arrived to assist with the large group of students that was forming, according to the report. Deputies then dispersed the crowd.<\/p>\n
