Firefighters found a woman dead in an unit at the Kently Pointe Apartments, 4724 S. 272nd St.

Firefighters responded at about 3:45 p.m. Friday, July 15 to a fire at the apartment complex, according to a July 18 email from Puget Sound Fire Division Chief Pat Pawlak.

Ten fire department units and 21 fire department personnel responded to the call, Pawlak said. The fire burned out prior to the arrival of firefighters.

“All of the windows in the apartment were closed,” Pawlak said about the second-floor unit. “As the fire burned, it self-extinguished prior to the arrival of firefighters, due to the lack of oxygen.”

The woman lived alone and was the only person in the apartment, Pawlak said. Firefighters found her on the floor near the front door unconscious and unresponsive. She died at the scene.

“A family member stopped by the house to check on their mother,” Pawlak said. “When they opened the door to the apartment, they discovered that there had been a fire. The family member was not able to remove her mother from the apartment.”

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Pawlak said. The fire did not spread to any other apartments.

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the woman and her cause and manner of death.
