The city of Kent had its sixth homicide of 2022 two weeks ago when somebody shot a 29-year-0ld Kent man outside of the Central Avenue Pub.

Bobby E. Rodgers died from a gunshot wound to the head, according to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Officers were in the area of the Central Avenue Pub, 1404 Central Ave. S., at about 1:52 a.m. July 2 when they heard gunshots, according to a July 14 email from Kent Police Assistant Chief Jarod Kasner. Kent Police did not release any information initially about the killing.

Officers found Rodgers with a gunshot wound to the head and began life-saving efforts until Puget Sound Fire medics arrived to transport him to a nearby hospital, where he later died. There was a large crowd outside the bar due to it being closing time, Kasner said.

A second victim from the bar shooting showed up later that night at Valley Medical Center in Renton with a gunshot wound to the neck/shoulder area, according to police.

No arrests have been made and detectives are still trying to determine what led to the shooting, Kasner said.

This is the sixth homicide this year, according to Kent Police. Kent had 14 homicides in 2021, eight in 2020, four in 2019 and seven in 2018.
