There are ways to protect yourself as a pedestrian.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The Washington State Patrol recently released a video with tips on how to protect yourself along the side of the road as part of its “Good to Know” series.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Fatality rates in Washington State have shown a steady decline over the past 10 years, according to the State Patrol. In 2010, 457 people were killed on our roadways whereas in 2000, 631 were killed.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
But pedestrian fatalities have remained steady with 61 pedestrians killed each year for the last three years.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen you\u2019re around traffic and being aware of the dangers is half the battle,\u201d said Capt. Jason Berry of the State Patrol.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
