Lake Youngs Elementary school students raised $630.24 in one week to benefit the KING 5 Northwest Response Team helping those affected by Hurricane Sandy.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The school’s student council drive spanned Nov. 15-22.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The school’s PTSA annual Kids Helping Kids drive Oct. 31-Nov. 16 raised money to buy gifts for 19 children in the community. Students at Lake Youngs did extra chores during the drive such as raking leaves, helping a younger sibling do homework and preparing food for dinner. The final amount raised was approximately $1,685 or $89 per classroom.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Each classroom had a volunteer shopper who was given an “adopted” child’s wish list. They enjoyed shopping and wrapping the gifts on the child’s wish list, which usually contained clothing and shoes as well as fun items. When possible, the shopper will take the gifts into the classroom to show the class what was bought with the money raised.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The PTSA has joined a local organization for several years to help children in the community have a better holiday season.<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
