Kentridge High School senior Saydi Orange took first place in the javelin at the WIAA State Track and Field Championships.<\/p>\n

Orange, the only winner at the state meet from a Kent school, placed first with a throw of 153 feet, 9 inches on Friday, May 27 at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma. Her distances in order were 136-10, 120-06, 137-08, 135-07, 153-09 and 145-01. Hanford’s Katelynn Gelston placed second at 132-09.<\/p>\n

This marked the first time since 2019 that the WIAA held the state meet due to COVID-19.<\/p>\n

Orange plans to continue her track and field career at the University of Washington, where she plans to study nursing according to the Kentridge Chargers Facebook page. Orange entered the meet as the top-ranked javelin thrower in the state this season and the third best mark in the nation at 157-0, which she posted at the 4A West Central\/Southwest bi-district championships.<\/p>\n

Orange also took sixth place in shot put at state with a toss of 37-09.25.<\/p>\n

Other state medalists from Kentridge included junior Jonah Tongco, who placed third in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.10 seconds and sixth in the long jump at 21-01.50; junior Alex Conner, second in the 300 hurdles in 39.19; junior Jasper Estrellado, third in the triple jump at 44-02; and freshman Shiney Mayanja, fifth in the 100 hurdles in 15.89.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
