For the Reporter<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n Western Washington University student Liv Mothershead of Kent has received a prestigious Fulbright Scholarship to help teach English at an Austrian school.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Mothershead, a graduate of Kentlake High School, is double majoring in German and English Literature at Western and will graduate with a bachelor’s degree in June.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n She will start her Fulbright program in September and stay in Austria until May.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n “I hope to improve my German, increase my skills as a culturally-conscious educator, and make more international friendships and connections,” she said.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Mothershead’s award was one of eight awarded to Western students or recent graduates, its most ever as an institution.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n The Fulbright will cover the entire cost of her trip, including room, board and transportation.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n The Fulbright Program is a prestigious international exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government. Fulbrights have enabled nearly 300,000 participants to travel abroad to study, teach, conduct research and exchange ideas to foster understanding between Americans and people of other countries.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Western’s Fellowships Office advises students who are interested in applying for nationally competitive scholarships. It provides information about available scholarships, helps students identify opportunities that match their backgrounds and career goals, and assists students in the preparation of their applications. The office also has information about internships and research opportunities for high achieving students.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
