Federal Way native Kelyn Rowe is in for two more seasons with the Seattle Sounders FC.

The Sounders re-signed Rowe, a 30-year-old midfielder, the organization announced on Jan. 18. The two-year contract includes both the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

“We are excited to bring Kelyn back after being such an integral part of our club in 2021,” said Garth Lagerwey, Sounders FC general manager and president of soccer. “He showed his value to the team by being the only player to appear in all of our matches last year and we look forward to his contributions going forward.”

Rowe appeared in all 38 matches with the Sounders FC in 2021, according to the organization, and was the only player to do so.

“Kelyn is a talented veteran player that we are happy to have back this season,” said Brian Schmetzer, Sounders FC head coach. “He provides our team with a lot of versatility and the ability to play at multiple positions. We are excited to continue to use his skills to better our team.”

Rowe graduated from Federal Way High School in 2010. He was a starter at UCLA for two seasons, and became the Pac-10 Freshman of the Year in 2010 and Pac-10 Player of the Year in 2011. Rowe played for the U.S. Men’s National Team and also represented the United States at the U-23, U-20 and U-18 levels.

Rowe has a total of 287 Major League Soccer (MLS) appearances. So far in his career, he’s tallied 31 goals and 47 assists.
