The Vancouver Giants scored three power-play goals Sunday afternoon on their way to a 4-1 victory over the Seattle Thunderbirds at the Pacific Coliseum.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The T-Birds remain in seventh place in the Western Conference playoff standings with 50 points. They are one point ahead the eighth-place Everett Silvertips and six points ahead of the ninth-place Prince George Cougars. The top eight teams in the conference qualify for post-season play. All three teams have 10 games remaining this season.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The T-Birds host the Cougars on Friday and the Silvertips on Saturday.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Seattle’s next game is 7:05 p.m. Tuesday against the Edmonton Oil Kings at the ShoWare Center.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Vancouver (16-45-2-0) went in front 1-0 on a power-play goal from Carter Popoff at 11:57 of the first period. Travis McEvoy and Arvin Atwal had the assists.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The Giants outshot the T-Birds 17-3 in the first period.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Brendan Rouse tipped a Brent Kulak point shot past Seattle goalie Brandon Glover on a power play to give the Giants a 2-0 lead at 12:09 of the second period. Cain Franson had the second assist on the goal.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Seattle (21-33-7-1) cut the Giants lead to one goal at 17:32 of the second with a five-on-three power-play goal. Jerret Smith sent the puck from the right point to Shea Theodore at the left point. Theodore made a diagonal pass to Alexander Delnov parked to the right of the goal. Delnov buried the puck into an empty net as Vancouver goalie Payton Lee lunged to get over and try and make the save.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The T-Birds outshot the Giants 11-9 in the second period. The Giants led in shots 26-14 after two periods.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The Giants took a 3-1 lead on a power-play goal from Brett Kulak at 12:04 of the third period. Jackson Houck and Rouse had the assists.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Franson added an unassisted empty-net goal at 18:11 of the third to ice the game for the Giants.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The Giants outshot the T-Birds 34-24 in the game.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Glover stopped 30 of 33 shots and his record is now 20-25-5-1.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Lee made 23 saves on 24 shots and his record goes to 10-19-1-0.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
