Kent residents didn’t receive garbage, recycling or yard waste services for the third consecutive day on Friday, Jan. 14 due to a work stoppage.

Republic Services sent robocalls Friday to customers to let them know about a drop-off site for garbage until noon Friday in the west parking lot of the accesso ShoWare Center, according to a city of Kent statement. Residents can drop off bagged garbage.

“Republic sent robocalls to residential customers who were missed this week, and they will continue to explore other options as well,” according to the city’s statement. “If you are not able to stop by, they will collect excess volume on your next scheduled collection day. Please bring a current bill for verification of service.”

Arizona-based Republic Services contracts with the city of Kent to handle garbage, yard waste and recycling services. The contract runs through 2029.

Residents have not had service Jan. 12-14, due to a temporary work stoppage by union members in honor of striking teamsters against Republic Services in San Diego. The unions represent garbage, recycling and yard waste drivers.

Republic Services has not released any information yet about when service might return.

Many residents have not had service for two to three weeks after Republic Services canceled pickups due to flooding and snow.
