The Thanksgiving holiday season kicked off Nov. 2 at the Northwest Harvest food bank warehouse in Kent with a donation of more than 8,000 pounds – over four tons – of turkey from Foster Farms.

The turkeys were delivered to the main distribution warehouse, 22220 68th Ave. S., and will be distributed in the coming weeks to Northwest Harvest’s SODO Community Market, as well as its partner agencies to help feed 10,000 in the community this Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving is a time for families to gather around a meal, yet 1 in 11 households are considered food insecure, according to a Foster Farms press release. The food bank is calling on others to contribute turkeys, food, monetary donations and support to help Washington families in need.

As the economic impact of the pandemic – and corresponding food insecurity – continues for American families, California-based Foster Farms renews its holiday hunger relief efforts this month with a 64,000-pound turkey donation to West Coast food banks. This donation will bring the comfort of a holiday meal to more than 80,000 people in need across three states to help address staggering food assistance needs. This month, Foster Farms is delivering thousands of holiday turkeys to food banks from Seattle to San Diego.

As part of its ongoing commitment to address food insecurity, Foster Farms has an annual tradition of donating Thanksgiving turkeys to local hunger relief organizations, most of which have partnered with the company for the last 13 years.

“At Foster Farms, we remain dedicated to fighting hunger in our local communities and are proud to continue our tradition of donating Thanksgiving turkeys, especially this year, as families return to more traditional Thanksgiving celebrations,” said Ira Brill, vice president of communications for Foster Farms. “We hope that others who are able will join us in supporting their local food bank by donating food, money or time.”

Northwest Harvest strives to end hunger and address the root causes of poverty — supporting a statewide network of 375 food banks, meal programs and high-need schools.
